Horace Killam Correspondence, 1864.

This collection documents the experiences of Horace Killam, an 18-year-old Union soldier from Boxford, Massachusetts. Killam joined the 59th Massachusetts Infantry in April 1864, participated in the Battle of Spotsylvania, and was captured at the Battle of North Anna. Killam was sent to Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia and later moved to a parole camp in Annapolis, Maryland where he died. The collection contains Killam's letters as well as the responses of his friends and family. The correspondence recounts his experience in battle, conditions in the prisoner of war camps, and creates a picture of the family's relationships.
